A leather bag in Bangladesh can cost ৳800 or ৳18,000, and both may be sold as “leather”. The gap isn’t only about the brand. It comes down to the type of leather, the size of the bag, the hardware and whether the bag is leather at all.
This guide shows what leather bags actually cost in Bangladesh right now, using prices listed by Bangladeshi shops, and explains what you get at each level.
Quick answer
A genuine leather bag from a known Bangladeshi brand usually costs between ৳2,500 and ৳10,000. Laptop and office bags sit around ৳2,500 to ৳8,000, satchels from about ৳3,500, and leather backpacks and travel bags from ৳5,000 up to ৳15,000 or more. A bag sold as “genuine leather” for under ৳1,500 deserves a close check, because at that price it is often PU or rexine.
Leather bag prices by type
The prices below are taken from listings on Bangladeshi shops in November 2026. They are listed prices, and many shops run regular discounts, so treat them as a guide rather than fixed rates.

| Bag type | Typical price (genuine leather) | Examples from Bangladeshi shops |
|---|---|---|
| Laptop and office bag | ৳2,500 to ৳8,000 | La Mode laptop bag ৳2,550 · SSB Leather briefcase ৳6,999 · Venturini executive bag ৳7,992 (listed ৳9,990) |
| Satchel and shoulder bag | From about ৳3,500 | LeatherDot satchel ৳3,850 |
| Backpack | ৳5,000 to ৳15,000+ | Shainpur leather backpack ৳4,999 · Police full grain backpack ৳13,500 (listed ৳18,000) |
| Travel bag and duffle | ৳5,000 to ৳12,000 | SSB Leather cow leather travel bag ৳7,499 · Craftsman leather duffle ৳11,995 |
Two patterns stand out. Bags from large retail brands cost more than bags from smaller leather makers, partly because of showroom and marketing costs. And bigger bags cost more simply because they use more leather. A backpack needs far more hide than a small satchel.
How the type of leather changes the price
Not all real leather is the same. The grade of the hide has the biggest effect on price, and it also decides how the bag will look after a few years.

Full grain leather keeps the whole top layer of the hide, including its natural marks. It is the strongest and most expensive grade, and it darkens and softens with use.
Top grain leather has the top surface lightly sanded and finished. It looks more even and costs a little less. It is still a good, durable choice for a daily bag.
“Genuine leather” sounds like a guarantee, but in the leather trade it often describes a lower grade cut from the inner layers of the hide, then coated to look smooth. It is real leather, but it wears faster than full grain or top grain.
Bonded leather is made from leather scraps glued together with a coating on top. It is cheap and tends to peel.
PU and rexine are synthetic. They can look very close to leather in photos, and they are fine for a low-cost bag, but they crack and peel over time, especially in heat and humidity.

What else pushes the price up
Two bags made from the same leather can still cost very different amounts. These are the usual reasons:
- Size. More leather means a higher cost. A 16 inch laptop bag needs far more hide than a small crossbody bag.
- Thickness. Thicker leather holds its shape and lasts longer, but it costs more and is harder to work with.
- Stitching. Tight, even stitches with strong thread hold up to daily weight. Loose stitching is one of the first places a cheap bag fails.
- Hardware. Solid metal zips, buckles and D-rings cost more than plated or plastic parts, and they don’t break or rust as quickly.
- Lining and edges. A proper fabric or leather lining, and edges that are painted or burnished instead of left raw, add work and cost.
- Brand and retail costs. Showrooms, staff and advertising all end up in the price tag.
When a “leather” bag is too cheap to be real
One Bangladeshi price list we checked showed a “genuine leather” men’s bag for ৳790. It is hard to buy enough real hide for a full bag at that price, let alone add stitching, hardware and a profit for the seller. A price like that is a reason to check closely before you buy.
The opposite can also happen. A PU tote from a well-known brand was listed at ৳2,792, which is close to what some small makers charge for real leather. A higher price does not prove a bag is leather.
The safest guide is the material line on the listing. Words like “PU”, “synthetic”, “vegan leather”, “leather-look” or “leatherette” all mean the bag is not real leather. If the listing only says “leather” with no grade, ask the seller what type it is. How to check a bag before you pay
Many Bangladeshi shops let you open the parcel and check the item before paying the delivery person. If yours does, use that moment well:

- Look at the edges. Real leather shows a fibrous, suede-like edge. Synthetic material often shows a fabric backing or a plastic layer.
- Check the grain. Real leather has small, uneven pores and marks. A perfectly repeated pattern usually means it was printed.
- Smell it. Leather has a rich, natural smell. PU often smells like plastic or chemicals.
- Test the stitching. Pull gently at the handles and strap joins. Nothing should move or gap.
- Open and close every zip. Zips should run smoothly without catching.
If anything doesn’t match the listing, return it at the door rather than after you’ve paid.

Caring for a leather bag in Bangladesh’s weather
A good leather bag is worth the money only if it lasts, and humidity is its biggest enemy here. During the monsoon, store the bag somewhere with air flow, not sealed in plastic, and wipe off any rain as soon as you can. Our guide to leather care in Bangladesh explains how to stop mould and keep the leather from drying out.
FAQs
How much does a real leather bag cost in Bangladesh?
Most genuine leather bags from Bangladeshi brands cost between ৳2,500 and ৳10,000. Small bags and laptop bags sit at the lower end, while leather backpacks often cost ৳5,000 to ৳15,000 or more.
Is a leather bag under ৳1,000 real leather?
Rarely. The leather alone for a full-size bag usually costs more than that. A bag at this price is most often PU, rexine or bonded leather, so check the material carefully.
Is “genuine leather” the best quality?
No. Although it is real leather, the term is often used for a lower grade. Full grain and top grain leather are stronger and age better.
Is PU leather always cheaper than real leather?
Not always. Some branded PU bags cost as much as real leather bags from smaller makers. Always read the material line instead of judging by price.
Which leather bag is best for office use?
A top grain or full grain laptop bag with a padded sleeve, metal hardware and a sturdy strap is a good choice for daily office use. Pick a size that fits your laptop with a little room to spare.
Final thoughts
Price alone won’t tell you whether a leather bag is good value. Look at the leather grade, the stitching, the hardware and the material line on the listing, and use the open-box check when you can. A bag that costs a little more but lasts five years is cheaper in the end than one that peels in a single monsoon.
